Q&A

I want to answer two questions before I go to bed tonight. (By the way, thanks for all the fun queries!)

For those of you who were reading the blog last summer you might remember me stumbling across some people on Craigslist who needed help with back to school clothes and supplies; and with basic food, furniture, and clothing for their 3 kids. It has been almost an entire year since I first found myself on Craigslist helping a few people. I have not helped ANYONE on the site since then... that is, until today.

So, anonymous... can you believe that of all days to ask if I was still helping people on Craigslist, you would ask today?  Below you will see a string of emails from me to a lady by the name of Elda H. (identity withheld) that I randomly came into contact with this afternoon. I will do a bit more investigating, but I am pretty sure this lady and her family could use the Wal-Mart gift cards!

And Etta, you asked: How do you know if it is God talking? Well, today I did not hear God's booming voice or even a whisper. Today I got on Craigslist to try and sell my 330 leftover newborn diapers. I was trying to make money; I was not scouring the pages of Craigslist to be a superhero or saint... I was there for my own sake. I find a lady who is not on the website to ask for help but is there to legitimately buy what she needs. Our paths cross. As soon as I read her very first e-mail though, I felt a nudge that I was supposed to offer her Annie's clothes.

Then I hear her story. She was praying that God would provide for her.

Then anonymous writes on the very day that I do something that I have not done in a year and asks if I still take Wal-Mart cards for needy families?

Coincidence? I don't think so.

Job 33:14-15 says, "For God does speak- now one way- now another, though man may not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds..."

I believe God speaks now one way, now another. Through the Holy scriptures, through the church, through circumstances, surroundings, through a song... you name it, the Holy Spirit can use it to speak to you.

For me, I know God is speaking when he confirms something to me over and over again. Like the experience I journaled about in the blog, And God Spoke. He used a radio DJ, my pastors, my band mate, a random camp preacher man, Psalms 23,  and an old guy who happened to bring a brand new purse to camp. There was no booming voice, but I knew it was God working through each of those people and situations to speak to me. I believe when God speaks he is not trying to confuse you... He speaks clearly and does not give up on you if you don't hear Him the first time.

Today, He spoke again. Very quietly. Very discreetly. Had I been in bad spirits perhaps I would not have perceived it... but today I was tuned in. Today God spoke.

So I am enclosing the litany of e-mails for several reasons... mainly, I want you, whoever you are, to know that it is not hard to find people with needs. They are out there. So trust your gut instinct and don't be afraid to offer a kind word or helping hand. You will be surprised who might need it. I guess I am also enclosing the emails for anonymous. I wanted you to know how perfectly timed your question was today. And finally... I reiterate that I am nothing special. These emails will show you that I set out to make a profit; and then God graciously led me in a different direction.

And yes, you can send Wal-Mart or Target cards for this family to:

The Craigslist Emails. Start from the bottom.

Final response from Elda H.:

I do not have much at all. I will have my baby the last week of August. My story is a little different I stopped a girl who was going to have an abortion. The only way she would not have it was that I myself keep the baby. Only me or she would have the abortion.  So I promised, my family is very excitedly waiting for our new baby girl. I myself had 3 and my baby is 11 years, then 18 and 22. Right now I am looking for an attorney for this matter. Do you know of any?

I waited this long because I tought she would back down from this, she also found out that it looks like my baby has one klep foot. So the girl is very determined to give her to me. Yes I can wait for next week. All will be a blessing because we also struggle a little. The baby will not struggle for love. Please keep me in your prayers that my baby comes out healthy otherwise. I from the bottom of my heart appreciatte what you are doing. I knew God would pull us through and he is using you to be this marvelous great blessing. Once again I do not have the words to thank you for not even knowing our situation and doing all of this for us.

Hey Elda,

Oh, I am so glad to find someone who can use the clothes! I have sisters who will be having babies in a few years and I thought about storing the clothes away for them, but it seemed selfish to keep my stuff packed away when I knew there were people who needed those clothes now! I prayed that God would give me someone to hand them over to. I am so glad to have found someone.  So, I emailed some of my other girl friends to see if they have any extra diapers, wipes, clothes, or other basic things and we are pulling some other stuff together for you. Is that ok? What if we meet next week sometime, say, Tuesday or Wednesday? That way I have time to get a few extra things.

Is your baby girl already here or are you still pregnant? If so, when are you due? My baby girl is 15 weeks old  and although it has been pretty hard getting use to taking care of a little person 24 hours a day, she has brought my husband and I so much joy. Love her to pieces. Let me know what day works best for you next week.

Have a great day... hope always.

Hi Elda,

I am so sorry but they were already purchased. Are you looking for a baby boy or girl? If you are having a girl, I have a few bags of like new clothes I was going to donate. I'd love to give them to you if you are interested. Please let me know!

Dear Ma'am

I am very interested in the newborn diapers. But will not have the $$ until next Thursday.

The crying baby.

The corn field in Iowa.

The play time with the crying baby in the corn field in Iowa.

The happy baby once again.

"She's so nice she'd give you the hat right off her head"...
well she did.
I met Pam on Friday and told her I loved her hat. She came back Sunday morning and gave it to me! As all fashionistas know, the perfect hat is hard to find. This gift was so thoughtful and of course in the world of hats... a sacrificial parting.  The world is full of amazing people. Thanks for being one of them Pam. You really made my day and I will wear this hat out!

And what summer trip would be complete without some fun in the pool? This is Annie after her first time swimming!

Hope you all had a great weekend. We are home for the next two weeks and I am so excited to have a break. I might get bored so...
If you are a new reader or an old reader with an itching question that I have yet to answer, send them my way! Whether it's Dallas Cowboy football predictions, questions about current events, songwriting, faith, or just questions about the squirrel, our family, and my very troubled- over-active brain... I'd love to hear from you and attempt to answer  any questions you might throw my way this week! This will be a fun experiment. Happy question writing and Happy Monday.
love you guys, jenny
