*This will begin a series of picture inspired blogs. I'm too tired to be original this week. Hope you enjoy.*

It's like having my very own porcelin doll.

Music time in the studio. This week we are singing all of the songs off of The Sound Of Music. She loves "These are a Few of My Favorite Things." We add in The Dallas Cowboys, Mexican food, and cupcakes. And this week we will add in Troy, Jimmy, Howie and the other boys from Fox; Boston; Grandma Ila; and people from Maine who wait in the autograph line to give us Lobster rolls after we talk about wanting a lobster on stage. Maybe we will also work on learning the word "Lobster."

Look, I am trying not to be biased, but this kid is smart. She devours books.

A few weeks ago someone left a comment on the blog saying they were, "devouring old posts like Nancy Drew books." This AMAZING compliment has stayed with me. I fell in love with reading (and I am quite sure I also developed a severe anxiety disorder) by reading about Nancy, Bess, and George and their terrifying adventures in secret passageways, old houses, and hidden lakefront properties. I'm talking the good Nancy Drew books people, the classics, by Carolyn Keene.

I stumbled upon the original series of books in my grandparent's musky attic when I was in the fourth grade. Every month I would visit them in Mississippi and before going home to Texas I would go and pilfer as many books as I could fit in my backpack.

And then my alternate life began.

I read furiously on the Sunday afternoon drive back to Texas. I would read for so long that my eyes would burn and threaten mutiny. Still, I sat on the edge of my mental capacity, on the brink of near blindness, on the verge of shear panic, and I would devour the adventures of Nancy Drew from cover to cover. Sometimes I wouldn't even get out of the car at gas stations for snacks. And you know something has sucked me in and held me prisoner if I skip out on the food. Monday mornings I would go back to school all foggy and exhausted. The rest of these chumps went to Showbiz pizza or Six Flags over the weekend but I went to find a secret clock in a secret closet in a secret house and I was almost run off the road, kidnapped, and killed twice. My life was way more interesting than theirs.
Grandma rolled her over after nap time and she looked like this. Gosh I love this kid.
Each week we try and learn new things. Last week we started learning to eat grass. This is the mark of a true Southern woman. If we have to, we know how to properly eat grass.

No rest for the weary. Unless your husband builds you a really nice bed made out of metal chairs. Then, a nap is only a matter of tuning out the other band on stage, the people who are eating dinner at the table right behind you, and the hum of the coke machine at the foot of your greenroom-metal-chair-bed that your poor 5 month old baby has to nap on. Annie doesn't know any different. This kid would be happy living in a trash can.

Ryan snapped this while we were taking a walk by the cornfields in Indiana. I love this picture. It makes me happy.

Oh goodness! You two are so adorable! She does seem like a pretty bright kid!

I gotta say, its kinda funny because I've read enough of your blogs and watched enough of the AR podcasts that I feel like I know you. Yesterday I was shopping with a friend and we were looking at 2010 calendars. They had a squirrel calendar. My first thought was, "Oh! Jenny would like that!" and then I realized that I don't actually know you. ha!

But seriously, you are a really amazing woman and I'm really happy for all that you have going for you in life!

I too devoured the original Nancy Drew books (which I discovered at my grandparents house too!) as a girl. I loved them so and still do. My mom actually took to rationing them out to me so they would last longer. One of my favorite memories of my grandpa is him scaring the bejezus out of me while I was engrossed in "The Spider Sapphire Mystery" and worried about what was going to happen next. He thought it was pretty funny to see me jump two feet out of my chair.

They originally belonged to my mom, then my aunts read them and now they are mine. Since I've decided this is something I "collect" I will not be passing them on. My prize one is an original from the 1940's - proudly proclaiming it was printed in wartime paper rationing compliance - and is signed by Mildred Benson. That's right...Carolyn Keene's real name.

Reading your post brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing.

My appetite for reading has yet to subside during the years...I now find myself hiding in the bathroom to read snippets of Jane Austen in between folding laundry and running kids everywhere!
Another good childhood series of books? Enid Blyton's "Secret Island."

Jenny,

Thanks for bringing us along with you all in your travels! Loved seeing little Miss Annie. She has your gorgeous and contagious smile!! I know Grandma Ila is having a ball as well.

Amanda is also an avid reader like her Grandma Kiesling and cousin Jenny. I always tell people that Amanda just consumes books like a teenager consumes chips...one is never enough! She loves to read and yet I can't seem to get her to read any Nancy Drew stories! Oh well...

Give Annie a giant hug from the Kiesling clan.

Love ya,
Lisa

Ah Jenny,

Sometimes pictures with captions are far better than any other words we can come up with. Thank you for sharing another piece of your life with all of us who like to pretend we know you! LOL

Annie is so adorable! All of the pictures were great, especially of the one where you're singing to her. She seemed to be really into the song :)

I myself was once a Nancy Drew fanatic. The books (I have about 20 or so of the classic, old-school ones) are pretty great. I would get in trouble at night for reading them in my bed with a flashlight when it was past my bedtime. But there are also other Nancy Drew things to become consumed with, such as the amazing computer games! I have games 1-19 (one of them being the classic "Secret of the Old Clock)that I have collected over the past few years, and when I was younger, had a life, and had no high school chemistry homework, I played them constantly! You should try one out yourself, they are pretty amazing.
Coming to the concert September 26! It'll be me and a bunch of the girls in my youth group, and we all can't wait!!!

I love your photo inspired blog post. Your Annie is just so cute! That last picture definitely looks like Indiana...I'm an expert since I live there and all.

Thanks for the photos! My favorite is the ADORABLE grin from Annie after nap time! I loved the Nancy Drew books too-I think I read every one in our library! Hope to see you in concert sometime. :)

Enjoyed the pics! And I share your love for the Nancy Drew classics! I checked out every Nancy Drew book that our little library owned. And then I saved up my allowance to buy nearly the entire set. Sams Club used to sell the hardbacks in packs of five (back in the day). Their covers are neon yellow with bright blue text. Gotta love it. :)

Can you even imagine all the stories Annie is going to have for Show and Tell at school. The other kids will be so "Wow, how cool is that? I wish my parents and been in a band".

I developed a passion for "The Hardy Boys" when I was a youngster. I remember reading them like no tommorow too. It was so fun reading those types of books and identifying with the characters so much.

I love your pictures of your kiddo! :)

When you guys are at Hanover College in Indiana in March, you'll be really close to "The Point" that overlooks the Ohio River from up high and is beautiful scenery. You should walk that way before the concert and get some pics with the river behind you. I'll remind you again before then because that's 6 months away. :)

Oh my,
Annie is GORGEOUS!
Most definitely beautiful little angel!
You ought to feel so proud of her, the beauty and simplicity of a baby really keeps me in awe!

Satisfaction in the end is the key to happiness. Thanks for showing us that :)
