Cut my own hair with my arts-n-crafts scissors. Yeah...I took off a little more than I intended. And no, I have no idea how to cut hair. And yes, I am celebrating the recession by learning. And no, this time did not go so well. And yes, I believe that practice will make perfect... that is if Ryan doesn't kill me first. He thinks my hair-cutting-episodes are, and I quote: disaster.

Taught Annie Boo how to sit up.

Almost.
I also dressed her in these pajamas that are entirely too big for her because I can no longer resist. They are so stinking cute. And really, why should I have to suffer because my 4-month-old, eleven pound baby does not fit into any of her 4-month-old clothes? Is it my fault she is so tiny that most women utter a small gasp when they find out she is not an infant? And why do they do this gaspy thing? She is wide eyed and bushy tailed. What kind of weird infant is alert and babbling? Have they had real babies? Of course she's not a newborn. And don't they know their comments freak me out? What is wrong with your baby??? She is freakishly small!
But, do not be concerned. I took her to the doctor two weeks ago and when she asked me why we came in, I said, "well, look at her... there's something not right." To which she replied, "She's just petite, you tell all those other moms their babies are just big headed." Then she tried to leave the room, as if that were all I needed to hear. Seriously? That's something my mom would say after a bully hurt my feelings. That is not medical. I want big words and worst case scenarios. I want the red book medical diagnosis. I have already paid my $25 co-pay. I want $25 worth of work done.
So I had her inspect everything.
Her ears. Her nose. The strange white-ish lump on her ribs. The suspiciously soft spot on her head. Her teeth or lack there-of. And her spine. It feels lopsided to me.

Today I worked on song lyrics for the new album. We sat down with two songs that were completely written and made some small tweaks. It took five hours. Five hours. I wanted to poke my eyeballs out. Travis and Ryan Gregg were teetering on the edge of a mental break-down. And then, when we were stuck on one line, one word, one terrible, pesky little word... we saw an ant crawl into my computer. Then another. And another.
The guys were convinced I was hiding food in my lap or perhaps, in my computer. They went on with this little joke for quite a while. Comparing me to the splunky junior high kid that hides a nasty stash of Cheetos, Little Debbies, and a Mountain Dew in their sleeping bag to eat after "lights out." I am a lady. Not cookie monster. They did not agree.
Then I saw the ants crawling on Ryan's computer. I am sure this is where they originated. I called him a germ. Ryan, that is, not the ants. Germ. That's what I called him the rest of the day. We talked about how we hated ants and wondered what purpose they serve. Took a 10 minute sunshine break. And then pressed on... for two more hours.

So glad you guys are fans of Tough Topic Tuesdays. I loved reading your responses... and I am already working on next week. If you haven't taken a minute to read people's thoughts, I encourage you to do so. It's like going to school. For free. I already feel smarter. Really. This is great. Happy Thursday.

Dont worry the hair grows back! I cut my hair on my own and Im only 14. When I mess up I put it up and use clips till it's long enough to fix.
My niece is 13 months, and everyone says she's way to big for her age. She is tall, but she's how she's supposed to be, and so is Annie.
Hey, I cut my hair all the times and sure, sometimes I am HORRIBLE at it. But it grows back. end of story. :D
and...
when i was 2 months old I was only 5 pounds. I was small until middle school. I would like to announce that I am a happy, healthy 19 year old. Squirrel will be fine :)
p.s. I'm usually a blurker [is that how you spell it? I'm behind too!] but youre amazing and so are your blogs! Keep it up!
jenny, you're causing my blood pressure to rise with all of this "cutting your own hair" business. just come to colorado and i'll give you a great cut for FREE!! in fact, if y'all come see me, i'll give you and all the guys free cuts!! :)
My 4 month old weighed less than 9 pounds and everyone would comment on how small she was and what was wrong with her! I would be stopped everywhere I went. So annoying and scary as a first time mom!
I love your blog! You make me laugh and cry and relive my own experiences only you make them sound so much more interesting!
My 3 month old grandson is 13 pounds. He in the 25 percentale so not tooo big.
lots of pics but none of the new do? is Ryan right? and even so its not a disaster its a style....Jenny Style. soon every lil girl will want it :-)
as Far as Annie goes well let me tell you what I have always told first and 2nd & 7th times moms (yes just because it isn't your first time doesn't mean you still don't end up with questions or concerns for your baby), You are the best mom your baby could have Thats why God gave her to you not to all those weirdos that have nothing better to do than worry about what YOUR baby looks or doesn't look like. I totally agree with what the doc said. Just remember for every 100 pieces of unsolicited baby advice you get maybe 1 is worth your time, yeah thats a big maybe.
I want to see your hair! but if it really is a "disaster" you know who to call :) cut and die practically professional here! I'm sure it looks awesome
I dont know what I would do if anyone called my child freakishly anything! you just tell them she is perfect and they can shove it (but in a nice way)
Annie is too cute! I especially love that second photo. What a doll! And don't you let anyone tell you she's not supposed to be the way she is. My mom got a lot of that when I was small because all the other kids were walking and I was not. I rolled from one end of the room to the other. However, I was talking way before they were. My parents used to joke that if I wanted something across the room, I could just tell one of the kids that walked to get it for me. Annie's smart. She'll be shocking them all with her brilliance, even if she is tiny! :)
I think Annie looks just as cute as always... they're just jealous :) I can't wait for a new album to come out! Keep up the hard work!
I'm sure your hair looks wonderful even if you claim you did not cut it right! You are such a beauty! =) And Annie is adorable also. Rather have her too small than too big. It makes it easier on you then when you carry her around! =) I'm excited for the new album! Any idea on how long til we'll be able to hear it?! =) Oh, and by the way, I have this freakish hatred toward ants too. They are filthy little nasties. Ha ha... Well, thanks again for a wonderfully written post!
~Brooke
I cut the top of my hair all the time. I know I don't cut it properly but it doesn't matter.
there is nothing wrong with annie being so little. my niece is 20 pounds & she will be 2 tomorrow.
i was so sad that i didnt get to see you wednesday night. i didnt find out about it until an hour before it started, but my parents werent at home at the time to take me. my friends really enjoyed it. they havent ever heard addison road before, but they really liked you!
i was happy that i did get to hear some of the songs. my friend called me and let me listen to about 6 songs. i thought that was really nice of her to call me and let me listen, since i couldnt be there, and she knew that addison road is my favorite band!!!
~a fan from Weatherford, Texas.
I used to cut my own hair before I started getting long layers. (Now THAT is fairly impossible to do yourself.) I would part my hair down the middle and all the way down the back, like pig tails. Then I just cut the two sides. It always worked out fine. Or you can have a friend cut it if it's just a straight line!
I'm sure it looks great! (Pictures?? I mean... you're gonna be on stage anyway...)
Jenny .... How is your sprained ankle that had you in the hospital a few weeks ago? Are you still walking with cruches?
Speaking of hiding food, one time in high school, we stuck one of those round breakfast sausages into my friend Kevin's TI-82 graphing calculator and closed it into its case. So when he got to math and opened his calculator there was a greasy sausage jammed in there.
I still laugh whenever I think of it.
Oh, and you did you get my text? You can borrow the bumbo my friend. Just let me know when to bring it by.
:)
Jenny,
thats exciting that you are writing new songs. and dont worry about cutting your own hair, my brother took a scissors to my hair when i was like 8 or 9 and chopped the whole side off.
and i was only like 4 pounds at 4 months so Annie is perfect and way bigger then i was at her age :)
When we were little, my sister would always cut her hair-the result was having super thick hair when she got older.
When my siblings and I were born we all weighed 1 lb. 4 oz. We were still in the hospital when we were 4 months old. Years later, we are healthy teenagers.
You are much braver than I! I would never even trim my own bangs let alone cut that much hair off my own head. My middle daughter, Rebekah (the one you saw sing 'Hope Now' in that video your mom sent you) was freakishly tiny as well. In fact, when she started walking at 10 months old, it was very weird. She was just so teeny tiny looking! Weight wise, she should have been in an infant car seat until she was well over 2 yrs. old. Whatever. Look at her now, she's fine! As will Annie Boo be. I'd rather be 'petite' than 'big boned' (which is what I tell myself is my problem ;)
I'm afraid ants might try to crawl into my laptop! I can actually SEE the crumbs under the keys. The only time I have to catch up on blogs and such is when I'm eating. Thus the crumby keyboard. Gross. I asked my husband if I could use the vacuum to suck the crumbs up, but he said no, it might pull the keys off too. The ocd in me wants to try anyway.
I love that you're blogging more,AND that you are on twitter now.
:) Your hair woes can be solved with a visit to North Alabama for a good cut! Heck I'd come to you guys!! I am a makeup artist as well! Your baby girl is just fine! I've come to realize that people say things before thinking way too frequently!
I tried cutting my own hair in HS and my mom about killed me! I thought I did a good job :) and too funny about the doctor's office your $25 worth! I have thought the same thing when they tell me the kids just have a virus...and I paid you a co-pay for that,oy!
If I were you, I'd be flicking those ants right off of that computer! They'd go flying everywhere! (which, personally, would be fun to see..)
I swear, Annie just gets cuter and cuter every blog post!
Keep on bloggin!!
Well you couldn't tell if you messed up your hair because it looked great last night. The concert you all did last night was fabulous! and it was a total joy speaking to you thanks for your time I know it very pressed since you had a plane to catch. Addison Road was just AWESOME! and Squirrel just to precious for words..
Tell the other moms to "SHOVE IT!" J-Rock, 'cause oh my gosh, your baby is FREAKING ADORABLE. The End. ....outta punch them in their faces....
Oh, do I know how you feel about your tiny baby! I got so tired of hearing people ask how many weeks old she was when she was 4 months! And I continued to worry, too, even though she was my 4th baby and I felt pretty sure that she was fine. I think there is something special and sweet about those little bitty ones :-) Oh yeah, and my little one is finally starting to show some chub at 6 months!
